The idea for the work stemmed from the title of Jan Gehl’s book “Life Between Buildings”. I wanted to create a piece using steel/chrome, glass, and mirrors to portray a frozen existence amidst windowless blocks. The video was intended to be grey in tone, inspired by filmmaker Jacques Tati’s tribute to the modernist city in the film "Playtime "—yet infused with a dystopian critique of modernism: in an era of pandemics, terror, and xenophobia, Gehl’s social urban spaces have been replaced by an urban vacuum.
